Wyre signs off 184 homes in Forton

Charles Church, a brand from housebuilder Persimmon, aims to start work later this month on its Cricketers’ Green project, situated on 26 acres of greenfield land north and south of School Lane.

Wyre Council approved the project under delegated powers. Outline permission for the scheme had been secured in 2021.

Cricketers’ Green will comprise 55 affordable homes, available as either affordable rent or at low-cost home ownership.

The 184 homes will be built on land divided by School Lane in Forton. The larger of the two plots is 18 acres, while the smaller is eight acres.

Most of Charles Church’s future houses will have either three bedrooms or four bedrooms. There will also be 29 two-bedroom houses and 24 five-bedroom ones.

All of the houses will have solar panels and have been designed to be energy efficient.

The project also includes six acres of open space.

Securing the planning permission from Wyre Council also involved Charles Church committing to £2.5m in investment funding for the community. This money will go towards healthcare, transport infrastructure, and local education. Around £1m is reserved for the construction of a new community hall for the area.

Andrew Laing, land director for Charles Church Lancashire, said: “We’re delighted that this development has taken another significant step forward.

“These exciting plans will deliver a wealth of benefits to the local community in addition to much needed, high-quality new housing for local families, first-time buyers and downsizers who otherwise might struggle to get on the housing ladder.”
