Warrington bus depot heads to committee
The depot on Dallam Lane is set for approval at Warrington’s planning committee later today, a project which will allow the council’s bus company to expand its fleet across the borough.
Wire Regeneration, a joint venture between Langtree and the council, has put forward the application, which will replace council-owned Own Buses’ current operation on Wilderspool Causeway.
Set to be built on a four-acre site on the Warrington Central Trading Estate, the three-storey proposal will support around 220 jobs and will allow Own Buses to add a further 20 vehicles to its fleet, taking total numbers up to 140 buses.
Under an initial timescale, the bus depot is set be complete and operational by summer 2021.
Council planning officers have recommended the project for approval at tonight’s committee meeting; the officers’ report argued the site’s location was preferable to the existing bus depot off Brian Bevan Island, being closer to Warrington bus interchange next to the Golden Square shopping centre.
Along with designer Janus Architects, Spawforths is the planner for the project, while Cundalls provided M&E advice; Marston & Grundy are civil & structural engineers, and Curtins transport consultants.
