Green light for Winton church redevelopment

The site of the former St Matthew’s Church off Worsley Road in Winton is to be transformed into 40 affordable homes under plans from Lancet Homes.

Brookhouse Group’s residential arm lodged plans in July 2025 for the two-building project, which would be located close to a Lidl and next to Winton library.

The development proposes a mix of one- and two-bed apartments to be operated by ForHousing upon completion.

The brownfield site was previously occupied by a single storey church and presbytery, which ceased operations in 2018. The site was cleared last year.

Euan Kellie Property Solutions is advising on planning and MPSL Planning & Design is the architect.

The council has signed an option agreement with the owner of the long-vacant former cotton mill in an effort to set a positive tone for the regeneration of the town. Developer Capital&Centric is in pole position to redevelop the grade two-listed asset into apartments.
