Sale office-to-residential wins consent

Supported by Euan Kellie Property Solutions, Trafford Housing Trust has secured planning approval to convert Chester House in sale into affordable homes.

The housing provider, working with developer Chester House SIPP, had put forward a planning application to transform the office on Cross Street into 24 affordable homes.

As well as converting the existing space, THT is proposing to add one additional storey to the roof, as well as extending the building to the side and rear. The existing building is vacant and sits next to Topps Tiles.

There will be a mix of one studio, one-beds, and two-beds over four floors. An existing bay to the front will be removed, while new brick panelling is proposed around the building, with Laurus’ Homes development just along Cross Street cited as a precedent.

There will be nine car parking spaces provided along with 24 for cycle parking; each of the car parking spaces will be allocated to the two-bed apartments, and this will provided to the rear of the building.

Trafford Council approved the scheme under delegated powers earlier this week. View Associates is the architect.

Other office-to-residential projects in the area include a proposal to convert the 34,300 sq ft Capgemini office into apartments and townhouses. This is to include 61 homes in total, but is understood been delayed, with discussions with Trafford Council still ongoing.

Who would want to live in that location, it’s awful and not fit for habitation. Are we that desperate to provide housing that it has to be there. I can’t believe this got planning, shameful!
