Rochdale seeks contractor for £11.4m SEN school
Procurement is underway for a design-and-build contract to deliver a secondary school for 64 students with social, emotional, and mental health needs off Mayfield Street.
Rochdale Council has already completed RIBA Stage 3 on the project and hopes that the winner of the contract will work with the current design team to take the scheme forward. The contract is valued at £11.4m, inclusive of VAT.
The successful bidder would start work on 13 July, with the aim of completing the school in time for it to open 1 September 2028.
The school was approved by Rochdale Cabinet in January last year, after the council deemed it necessary to alleviate the demand at Raise Rochdale PRS. Raise Rochdale is a specialised school that has 199 pupils that has seen the number of children in each year group increase annually since 2014.

Do the top contractors still take on single-stage design & build contracts in this day and age? I’d be worried about the quality of bids if I was advising the council.
