Project team in place as £250m Stockport 8 progresses

Stockport Mayoral Development Corporation and the English Cities Fund will consult on plans for the 1,200-home scheme in the new year.

ECF, a joint venture between Muse, Homes England, and Legal & General was appointed as development partner for the scheme in May, beating off competition from two other shortlisted parties, and has now assembled a project team to bring the £250m vision to life.

Shedkm is the architect, Planit is advising on landscape, and Deloitte is the planning consultant. Additionally, Walker Sime is the project manager and Font Comms will lead on the consultation.

Phil Mayall, managing director of Muse, said: “This will be a connected, fully walkable neighbourhood with a diverse mix of homes, places for local businesses to thrive and green outdoor spaces. This area was once a successful residential community, breathing new life into it will be fantastic for Stockport and enable us to reconnect surrounding communities with the town centre.

“We want this to be a place that’s distinctly Stockport and that celebrates the rich history of the area, so we’ll be out speaking to the local community in the new year to get their feedback. If you live in Stockport or are thinking about moving, get involved and help us create a place that sets the standard for town centre living.”

Stockport 8 forms part of Stockport MDC’s Town Centre West masterplan, which proposes the redevelopment of 130 acres, providing 4,000 homes.

Schemes already being delivered within the masterplan area include Capital&Centric’s Weir Mill and the redevelopment of the town’s bus station, which features a new transport interchange and a 196-home BTR development.

Eamonn Boylan, interim chair of Stockport MDC, said: “Our ambition for the [Stockport 8] site and for the wider regeneration district, has always been one that best serves the needs of local people, and this process will enable us to best achieve this ambition, and to move another step closer to building the most sustainable and liveable town centre, not only in the region but in the UK.

“English Cities Fund’s considerable emphasis on a robust and collaborative public consultation and community engagement programme in its proposal for Stockport 8 was one of a number of reasons we knew they were the right partner for the largest site within the regeneration masterplan.”

A lot of mancs leaving town for Stockport, it’s like Manchester was when it was cool

By DH

Likewise many Mancs in the hundreds if not into thousands have moved to Northwich mind you in the last 15 years we’ve had about 6000 houses built
plus with the new A556 bypass it can only take you 15 mins to get to manchester airport and altrincham and bowdon too! so very quick nowadays compared to the mere/bucklow hill days.

They have just opened the sister media city bar The Dockyard in Northwich too!

By Northwich

this a wonderful development I look forward to using it

I was worried about the viaduct being hidden but it looks as though I could be more of a focal point and an integral part of the whole project, I live what’s happening to Stockport now it’s long overdue.

By Pablo

When will you stop breaking the Town up and start fixing it?

By Ian

The history has been lost. The Mills are Grade 2 listed. Refurbish for business. At least with a business, there’s more money for the Local Authority. With a private flat, the Tenant has to wait until the landlord has the time to fix it. What a waste.

Improve and invest in the archaic road system before building houses.
The council is only interested in the income from council tax ,certainly not in how people get around the the terrible road systems in the whole of Stockport.

Any plans for Edgeley .

“”the most sustainable and liveable town centre … in the UK”? Absolutely totally fantastic world-beating town leader. I will vote for him.

By Anonymous

The good news is that this will happen….the bad news is it won’t be Stockport……..it will be anywhere. But growth in the region is vital…..not just in Manchester so crack on

By County

The redevelopment of Edgeley should also be on the agenda, although I expect the existing housing stock around this area will be in high demand and will rocket in price once Stockport establishes itself as the place to be.

DH trolling again DH? Be happy for us, this is a good development, all of south Manchester will benefit from such wonderful investment.

I was in New York last week and London last month and pizza and burgers dominated there Dan…….as they do in many major cities in the world

Nowhere have I seen mentioned access to GP’s, schools, green spaces even dog parks which towns and cities in Europe have. Please remember Stockport’s industrial history too. Also, in the 1960’s , 70’s, going into 80’s it was a thriving town centre, people from outside the area used to visit Just under investment and head in sand attitude by Council and private owner. Hope this all works.

What about the pressure on the
hospital, GP surgeries and schools.
What are the plans???

By Anonymous

No shops hardly. Dirty . A dead town .lived there for 50 years and it’s just gone down in the pits

By Anonymous

I don’t know why people are mentioning schools, theses are town centre flats, not family homes, they are not for children. They also won’t need extra doctor surgeries as it is nowhere near big enough.

By Gilly

‘No shops hardly. Dirty . A dead town ‘ silly comment, that is rather the point of development is it not? More reading less writing.

By Anonymous

Gilly – why don’t we let other people make that decision for themselves?
