Planning officers have advised that the first Boxpark venue outside of London, along with 75 homes overlooking the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, should be approved by Liverpool City Council’s planning committee on Tuesday.

Boxpark’s all-day dining and entertainment venue has been recommended for approval in Liverpool.

The developer plans to bring its first venue outside of London to Canning Hall, part of the Cains Brewery Estate.

A series of food and drink kiosks and a bar area will be complemented by an external terrace, created with a series of shipping containers placed along Parliament Street.

Architect BDP has drawn up the plans for the 16,000 sq ft site.

Food and drink units would be arranged around a central dining area and events space.

A mezzanine would be built to create 7,700 sq ft of new floorspace, supported by the units below. It would be accessed via two staircases either side of the main entrance and a lift. The new level would provide a seating area, bar, game areas, and toilets.

Boxpark opened its first venue in Shoreditch in 2010. A further two London venues have launched since, one in Croydon and one in Wembley.

The council is recommended to approve the development of a brownfield site off Commercial Road, developed by Elavace.

The site was formerly occupied by a warehouse, which was demolished in 1991 and is now vacant.

The one-acre site would provide 75 homes within two perpendicular blocks. One four-storey block would face Commercial Road, while another six-storey block would face the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.

A mix of homes would be provided by the scheme: 56 one-bedroom and 19 two bedroom apartments.

Joined by a ground-floor link, residents from both blocks could enjoy shared outdoor amenity space.

An underground car park is proposed to provide 72 cycle spaces and 39 car spaces, included three with disabled access.

Greyside Planning is consulting on the plans for the redevelopment.

SNOW Architects is the architect behind the project.

Boxpark will be a great addition to the Brewery Village. Well done to Sid and his team for bringing them to the city. Let’s give it the nod and get it built.

I wish Manchester had a box park

Box Park coming to Liverpool makes complete sense as it will be the most historic globally renowned food hall coming to one of the most globally creative cities!

I’m so happy Liverpool is showcasing Boxpark in the North and not Manchester. Refreshing news

Great – Hatch in Manchester has been a great addition, glad to see Liverpool getting something similar.

Great to see the flats scheme on Commercial Road, bringing people back to what was once was a heavily populated area, full of vitality and local pubs.

lol @anonymous are you fishing? Manchester already has several of these types of venues like Mackie Mayor, Society, Exhibition, New Century…

Pomoaner those places are nothing like Boxpark

Boxparks in London are a bit grim and soul-less, especially the Shoreditch one. I much prefer places like Mackie Mayor or Hatch when in Manchester – but a good gig for Liverpool.

Regarding Hatch in Manchester – it is quirky and fun – but not on the same scale as Boxpark, which will also serve as an entertainment venue. Liverpool also has the Duke Street Food hall ( akin to the Makie Mayor) as well as the existing Baltic foodhall and the new one on Renshaw street too.
