Northern Group plans 200 homes close to Reddish’s ‘Secret Lake’

A mix of houses and apartments off Station Road close to the local beauty spot are in the works.

Northern Group is aiming to lodge a planning application for the 200-home project, located between Levenshulme and Reddish North train stations, with Stockport Council this summer.

A consultation on the project has been held and early stage plans are now with the local authority for consideration.

The scheme features 109 two- and three-bed houses and 91 one- and two-bedroom apartments on two plots south of Station Road. At least half of the homes would be available on affordable tenures, according to Northern Group.

The western plot is dominated by the so-called Secret Lake, a local beauty spot that can be accessed via the Fallowfield Loop of the footpath off Sandfold Lane.

A spokesperson for Northern Group said: “Our plans for Station Road will provide a minimum of 50% affordable homes for residents, meeting a local need for discounted homes.
“We have listened to local residents’ concerns around traffic congestion and are working closely with our professional team to put in measures to mitigate any impacts.
“We also recognise that the secret lake is valued locally and we are committed to opening up this private land to the public through our redevelopment of the site. We want to make it safer and more accessible for future users.”

Horizon Fletcher Rae and Eden Planning are advising on the plans.

Can’t believe you’ve gone and told everyone where the secret lake is. Can’t trust anyone these days.

Station road is already bad enough with traffic, putting 200 extra homes down this way would be even worse.
As there is only one way in and out, plus with having an industrial estate at the bottom there is a constant flow at waggons.

It isn’t ‘close to’ but on top of a Site of Biological Importance

By Anonymous

It’s not close, it’s literally on the lakes. Filling one of them in (which has a read bed and nesting wildlife)
The main lake will loose all its green space so will stop being a place of bio diversity. It’s also going to put all the traffic down station road in reddish which will cause traffic chaos and negatively affect the businesses down there too.

The site is an utter dump. Take any comments that it’s a community space as nonsense, it’s not well looked after

There is hardly any green space left and the infrastructure such as traffic, doctors, dentists cannot support those number of houses and people. Houses being built everywhere with no amenities.

Why not bulldoze parts of Stockport town centre like prince’s street and build homes there town centres are dead full of charity shops

There is a Facebook group called Levenshulme Secret Lake. Please apply to this group. We will not allow this construction to happen. The secret lake and the surrounding area is now the only green space left for the residents to go to.

Appalling to lose such a valuable piece of rare undeveloped beauty

To much traffic already. Lack of green space. Will bring more anti social behaviour in areas. And it’s a little hidden gem of beauty that’s been there for years and shouldn’t be filled in for so called affordable housing 👎

Every square inch of land in this area is being built on.. hundreds of homes are going up.. playgrounds and leisure spaces are being constantly lost.. even those that had legal protection for years.. there are not enough community structures.. it is already incredibly congested and the tram plans have been pushed back again.. this congestion of housing will destroy the property market in Manchester.. it’s already becoming unpleasant and has lost the atmosphere that made it vibrant.. it’s literally becoming a mini London.. and with it’s problems that are ending it too

Zoom out on sat maps.. you will see there are already hundreds and hundreds of new builds within less than half a mile..every inch is being built on.. there will be nothing left locally.
