Newmark brings in Balshaw

The global consulting firm has hired Manchester-based Chris Balshaw to establish a cost consultancy and management services offer in Manchester, initially focusing on the North West.

In the role, which sits within the wider building consultancy team, Balshaw will provide cost management, financial oversight and procurement advice for construction and real estate projects.

Newmark partner Dean Collins said: “In an increasingly challenging commercial environment, the demand for robust data-led cost consultancy advice continues to grow. Establishing this capability is a natural step for our business, strengthening our national services and providing clients with an extra level of expertise and assurance.

“With Chris on board, we’re enhancing our ability to deliver end-to-end high quality construction advice and solutions across the UK.”

Balshaw brings more than 35 years of experience to the role, with a particularly strong track record in healthcare and residential.

He has previously been a partner at Todd & Ledson, where he played a key role in leading a 25-strong team delivering cost consultancy solutions.

Following Todd & Ledson’s acquisition by Rider Levett Bucknall in 2019, he led on healthcare in the North West as the two businesses’ capabilities were integrated.

Balshaw said: “I’m thrilled at the opportunity to play a key role in building and shaping a cost consultancy offer within a dynamic and expanding business like Newmark. In addition to utlising my own network, being able to tap into an already rich and diverse client base makes the future really exciting.”

Newmark acquired UK consultancy Gerald Eve in 2023, bringing its nine UK offices into the enlarged group. The Manchester office is at 1 Marsden Street.
