Lightflask to redevelop Birkdale blind school

Sefton council has granted detailed planning permission and conservation area consent for the redevelopment of the former Royal National Institute of Blind People School on Oxford Road in Birkdale.

Sunshine House will be transformed by local developer Lightflask into seven luxury town houses and 15 apartments.

Marc Hourigan, director of planning at Colliers CRE, advising Lighflask, said the decision followed two years of talks with local parties. He added: "Since our appointment we have worked hard with Lightflask's architects McCormick Architecture and Sefton's Planning Department and other key stakeholders to ensure that the proposals will result in a high quality development which will benefit both new and existing residents and make a positive contribution to the surrounding conservation area."
