Conwy clears care home
Rosewood Healthcare Group has the green light for a new-build facility offering 50 beds, off Kenelm Road in Rhos-on-Sea.
Conwy Council has now issued a decision notice for the 13-17 Kenelm Road project, put forward with the support of ELG Planning, architect LOROC and ARP Geotechnical.
Headquartered in Lymm, Rosewood operates six other care homes across the North West and North Wales.
The project involves the demolition of an existing, vacant, care home of 12,417 sq ft, and its replacement with a new home of 20,121 sq ft. The previous nursing home, known as Priory Grange, closed down in 2018.
Prior to the care home application coming forward, plans had been submitted for demolition and the introduction of eight homes, but were refused in 2021 due to the proposed townhouses not fitting with the traditional housing surrounding the site.
In its planning statement, ELG made the for development: “The site has an established use as a 29-bed care home and the current proposals are seeking the comprehensive redevelopment of the site to deliver a modern-format residential care home providing a total of 50 bedrooms.
“The proposals represent a modest uplift in the number of bedrooms and will deliver a high-quality residential care facility with a highly accessible location in the main urban area to meet the needs of an ageing population.”
