Hyndburn residents lose water supply
United Utilities said it is still working to secure water supplies in Hyndburn in Lancashire after a large water main burst on Tuesday night.
Working through the night, UU engineers secured water for the vast majority of customers, but there were still houses in the Accrington, Oswaldtwistle and Clayton-le-Moors areas without water on Wednesday morning.
Since the problems started United Utilities has used its fleet of mobile water tankers to pump water directly into the mains network and bottled water is being delivered direct to vulnerable customers.
United Utilities said "some people may also be experiencing lower than normal water pressure. Everything possible is being done to restore all supplies as quickly as possible. In the meantime, bottled water and bowsers are being used to keep people supplied."
Around 25 large water containers, also known as bowsers, are in place and are being kept topped up in the following areas:
- Six homes on Booth Street, Accrington
- Two on Fountain Place, Accrington
- 10 on Charter Street, Accrington
- Four on Russia Street, Accrington
- Three on Edleston Street/Pickle Street, Accrington
- Rawson Avenue, Accrington
United Utilities said more are on their way to other communities where people are reporting no water.
Schools in Accrington and Oswaldtwistle also had to close on Wednesday due to the water main burst.
As a resident living nearby, but not affected, I can say that UU have done their level best to sort this out. good on them, we expected a lot worse.
