Huge St Helens industrial scheme set for consent

A 51-acre site at Millfield Park could soon host an 832,400 sq ft industrial park if the council approves redevelopment proposals next week.

Canmoor Developments wants to construct eight units ranging from 20,250 sq ft to 496,500 sq ft.

Located north west of the 300,000 sq ft Haydock Industrial Estate, the site has been earmarked for redevelopment under the St Helens Local Plan after it was removed from Green Belt  and allocated for employment use.

The proposal could have the potential to support between 1,000 to 1,600 jobs, according to planning documents.

A previous application that would have seen 1m sq ft of floorspace across 10 units developed was declined by the council. As a result, the number of units was then reduced to eight.

Parking would be provided for 833 cars, as well as 196 HGVs.

St Helens Council’s planning committee will meet on 7 January to decide on the officers’ recommendation for approval.

On the project team are Michael Sparks Associates, TIER Consulting, Applied Ecology, RPS, ESC, Kairus, DTA, Sharps Redmore, and BB Trees. Stephenson Halliday is the principal designer.

Merseytravel urgently need to look into a much better public transport scheme for Haydock. It’s needs a tram now running through the area between St Helens, and Wigan. The buses don’t cut it anymore. But seeing as Steve Rotherham’s in Charge we can probably forward to him blathering on about a station at Carr Mill because it looks near-ish on a map. Even though it isn’t.
