Housebuilder picks up Heaton Mersey site

Anwyl Partnerships has acquired the former Focus School site off Didsbury Road in the Stockport suburb, where it plans to build 82 homes.

The privately owned and operated school, part of the OneSchool Global network, relocated outside of the borough in 2019, since when the site has remained unused.

There is a residential planning permission in place, although the developer will seek a fresh full consent for its proposals.

Sam Oliver, land director at Anwyl Partnerships, said: “The Focus school site represents an exceptional acquisition for Anwyl and is a continuation of our activities and investment in Stockport and the wider Greater Manchester region.

“The former proposals, which obtained planning consent more than two years ago will need to be reconsidered to ensure we create a viable scheme that can unlock the site, delivering much needed housing in Stockport through our flexible mixed tenure approach.

“Our draft proposals for the site are now beginning to take shape and look really exciting. We will soon begin a consultation process with local residents seeking their views ahead of the submission of a full planning application.”

In a further Stockport scheme, Anwyl Partnerships has also submitted plans for 66 apartments off Ladybridge Road, Cheadle Hulme, on which it expects a decision in the summer. The site was acquired early in 2021.

Much better than the previous pitifully low density scheme – but should be looking to do even more on this highly accessible urban site.

82 Homes………why are they not mentioning its 10 semi-detached houses and an apartment block for the over 55s? Further traffic added to an already mad busy Didsbury Road is not going to be good.

What’s the solution then FromtheBoro? Keep locking people from owning their own home just so you can pootle along Didsbury Road in your car? Quite a selfish mentality IMO

Lovely looking scheme. Decent bus service & shops within walkable distance. Traffic impacts likely to be minimal, especially with an over 55s scheme where most movements are outside peak hours.

I wish this would have been made into a local
Park.
