The housebuilder has bought a former garden centre on the junction of Ladybridge Road and Mill Lane and is drawing up plans to redevelop it into a retirement living complex.
The name of the private vendor and the value of the deal were undisclosed.
Anwyl Partnerships plans to create a 70-apartment senior living development on the 1.5-acre brownfield plot in Cheadle Hulme and is consulting with the public on early-stage proposals over the next four weeks.
The development would be designed to facilitate independent living, with optional care and support provision, according to the housebuilder. There would be additional facilities, likely to include an on-site bistro, café and activity and function rooms- all made accessible to the general public.
The apartments would be designated as affordable and prioritised for local people, Anwyl said.
Mosaic Town Planning is the planning consultant for the scheme, while Jennings Design Associates is the architect. Anwyl was unrepresented in the acquisition deal.

Anwyl said in recent months it has handed over 534 apartments in the extra care and retirement living sector in the North West and North Wales, and has a further 420 in the pipeline.
