Food distributor McClures grows into larger shed
The hospitality supplier has put in an application to Westmorland and Furness Council seeking permission to construct a 41,300 sq ft industrial unit opposite Moss End Business Village, directly south of Milton.
McClures has outgrown its existing Windermere site and has commissioned JMP Architects to design a larger storage and distribution hub on a well-connected five-acre plot just off the M6.
Across the shed’s ground floor, a main operations space spanning more than 34,000 sq ft would include freezer areas, chilled sections, and general ambient-temperature storage.
Office space, meeting rooms, toilets, and a canteen would be found on the 7,200 sq ft first floor.
An external paved yard area to accommodate HGVs and a 1,400 sq ft vehicle maintenance building are also included in the plans.
The proposed car park would offer 79 car spaces and eight motorbike docks.
McClures operates 24/7, employs 165 people, predominantly from the Kendal area, and has a fleet of 35 distribution vehicles. It delivers mostly throughout Cumbria, Lancashire, and North Yorkshire.
Stephenson Halliday is the planning agent for the scheme.
Other consultants on the project team include Miller Goodall, Greenlane Archaeology, Abacus, i-Transport, Envirotech, Thomas Consulting, and PGLA Landscape Architects.
