Early 2020 opening for Lidl Winton

Work on the 14,300 sq ft store is now under way following the retailer’s purchase of the former Brown Cow pub site last year.

Planning permission was secured for the supermarket in Winton earlier this year, and a six-month build has now commenced with the store set to open its doors in 2020.

The retailer purchased the site from Kay Atlas in a multi-million-pound deal in August last year.

The site of the Brown Cow pub, which closed in 2015 and has been subject to vandalism and fires, was granted planning permission for 44 homes in December last year, including 21 two-bed apartments, eight three-bed houses, and 15 four-bed houses. It sits on Worsley Road just off the M602 and borders Worsley Brook.

Other stores Lidl has opened in Greater Manchester in recent months include a supermarket next to Tesco Extra in Baguley, and its first in Trafford at the former PC World on Chester Road.

Lidl’s regional head of property Nick Harvey said: “There’s been much anticipation for this new Lidl store and it’s great that we are now in a position to start the build. We are extremely grateful for all the support that we have received so far, and would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding whilst we enter this next phase of the development.”

Hopefully they’ll have time to plant some trees in that car park before then

As a local tenant can’t wait for Lidl to open new job opportunities too

By Janette

I can’t wait for this store to open. Sick of local shops being inaccessible for the disabled. Yes obviously they moan about this new store but it serves them right for high steps, no ramps, aisles strewn with boxes and stuff that should be on shelves not blocking the aisles. Health & Safety hazard. Come on Lidl you’re very welcome as far as I’m concerned.

This site should have been used for.alternate access.to Cleaveleys athletics track. The current access via Blantyre street is no longer fit for.purpose.

Hi. As I go through the lights next to Lidl and under the motorway bridge, going towards the Peel Green area, on the left hand side of the new crossing ‘island’ – when it rains, the rainwater collects very quickly on the crossing area which can be quite deep so I thought that the drain must be blocked. I drive through that ‘island’ regularly and as it has been raining quite a bit recently, any of the lorries, vans or cars that have been parked there, end up absolutely soaked. I really think this needs sorting asap! Shoppers will really not be happy getting a dirty wash every time they try to shop at Lidl!
