Cheadle resi clears first hurdle
Plans for 37 homes on part of the Demmings Road industrial estate will proceed to Stockport’s main planning committee after receiving a thumbs-up at area level.
The applicant, Southway Plus – the commercial arm of Southway Housing Trust – and Quinta Group, was represented at last night’s area committee session by Kat McMaster of Enabl.
Also on the professional team are architect View, Layer.studio and SLR Consulting.
As the scheme deviates from the adopted development plan, the area committee could only recommend approval ahead of reference to Stockport’s planning & highways committee.
On the table is the demolition of an industrial building on the edge of the Demmings Road industrial estate, a cluster of industrial buildings off the road of that name, which itself runs off Councillor Lane.
Southway and Quinta want to replace the shed with a series of three-storey buildings, accessed by car from Demmings Road to the east. The development site is currently used by local coach company Bullocks, and lies close to housing on Brookfield Road.

The make-up of the housing proposed is 16 terraced townhouses in four blocks, 12 further townhouses on the eastern part of the plot close to the site’s entrance, and nine flats in a single block at the rear of the site.
The housing will all be three-bedroom, with six of the flats being one-bed and three two-bed.
Set to be included at a later stage is the replacement of an existing public footpath through the site – the current path will be taken up by development, with the applicant’s adviser assuring the meeting that the replacement path will be safer and more accessible than the current version.
All planning documents relating to the scheme can be found on Stockport Council’s planning portal, reference DC/096245.

All these new developments being built in the Cheadle area and still no train station. The village is going to be grid locked with cars. This needs to be addressed.

I believe this will enhance the area and be a welcome addition

Could this have a more depressing street frontage?
By Underwhelmed
The area is already overloaded with housing and grid locked with traffic, more housing is only going to make things worse and is not welcome
By Brihop
The current residents of Demmings Road are not happy about this,as it will vastly increase early morning and general traffic which is bad enough.

I don’t think it won’t work because it very poor design.

Where’s Cheadle’s long promised train station to support all this new housing? As many have said, traffic is regularly gridlocked in the area and the town is crying out for enhanced public transport that links the town to Manchester.
Place NW can you investigate the delay?
