Bolton commuters to get increased park-and-ride capacity
The number of parking spaces at Horwich Parkway Rail Station is to rise from 163 to 250 following a successful bid to a national funding pot.
Transport for Greater Manchester has been awarded £220,000 from the Station Commercial Project Facility.
Cllr Roger Jones, chairman of TfGM Committee's capital projects and policy sub-committee, said: "We're committed to finding ways to invest in park-and-ride sites across Greater Manchester because it makes the train a more realistic travel option for people who live a short drive from a station.
"So I'm pleased we've been successful with this bid, which will provide even more spaces at what is already a very popular station, and supports our proposals to expand Park and Ride at rail and Metrolink stations across Greater Manchester."
Cllr David Chadwick, TfGMC member for Bolton, said: "This is wonderful news for rail commuters at Horwich Parkway, who have demonstrated overwhelmingly that park-and-ride schemes are needed to encourage more people to travel by train."
The Station Commercial Project Facility was launched by Network Rail and the Department for Transport earlier this year.
