Apartment scheme planned at Salford Shopping Centre

Donard Affordable Homes wants to redevelop the former Buzz Bingo Hall opposite the retail precinct, creating 270 flats across a trio of blocks.

Located on the corner of Hankinson Way and Belvedere Road in Pendleton, Albion Court would comprise one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments across three buildings.

The site is currently occupied by the former Buzz Bingo Hall, which closed in 2020. Pod Architects is leading the design of Albion Court and Euan Kellie Property Solutions is the planning consultant. Layer.studio is the landscape architect.

Donard Affordable Homes has now launched a public consultation on the development, which will run until Wednesday 4 May.

“There is a shortage of affordable homes in Salford and across much of the region,” the consultation website says. “Albion Court will help address the housing crisis by delivering 270 new homes, each of varying size and tenure.”

Donard Affordable Homes, which is developing a similar scheme in Bristol, hopes the location of the scheme will encourage residents to choose environmentally friendly modes of transport.

Paul Thornton, a spokesperson for Donard Affordable Homes, said: “Our proposed plans in Pendleton will deliver a transformational development with sustainability and high-quality design principles at its heart.

“Our ambition is to bring forward a scheme which can revitalise this important site and help address the local housing shortage with much-needed affordable homes.”

Fantastic news, lets hope this is the catalyst for much needed regeneration in the Pendleton and Salford City Centre region.

Looks like a great project, nice to see balconies (though would be overlooking a police station currently). Hopefully would lead to some cosmetic and urban improvements to the precinct. Complimenting the work undertaken last year on the pedestrian areas and bus lanes.

Excellent news, just what’s needed.

There was a block almost exactly there. Walter Greenwood court. Salford Council owned. It would have cost a fraction of the price to re furb and keep in public ownership. But that’s the price of progress eh?

Its about time they spent some money on the shopping centre. So many buckets on the floors when you go in, catching drips from the leaky roof.

I remember when rosehill crt and churchill crt were social housing before they were sold to the university, i wonder how many affordable flats were lost in that purchase, i wonder if in 2o years the same will happen to this project?

How many of these apartments will be affordable? How many if any will be affordable to rent

Great to invest in community housing, and let’s hope it stays affordable for the families that are in desperate need for housing. there also needs investment for leisure and entertainment in the area too, and the priecent needs a big revamp.

Ye great, more houses. Just what’s needed. How about investing in the children of tomorrow and building a state of the art training facility in any discipline. Create Olympic gold medalist or the next England fc captain.

Why here when there is vacant land of Churchill way ,I live in Beech Court and your propose building will take my privacy away and light into my flat ,I don’t need to be looking in some other person accommodation from mine or vice versa , I’m in my twilight years and if this plan goes ahead I would need to move .

Wonder how much they claim to be ‘affordable?

By Carole

How many will be available for local people.

They should buy all the land and get rid of all the tower blocks and rebuild them all so the residents will have somewhere decent to live

Yeh, nice new buildings, I’m willing to bet none of them are for the average local here in Pendleton. All those people on Salford Home Search will carry on fighting it out for what little social housing we have left! All the while the Council will continue to sell off council land and properties for developments like the above.

We’re slowly being gentrified, by a Labour Council no less!
