Story Homes hunts Dalston success

An application seeking full planning consent for 99 homes off Nook Lane has been lodged with Cumberland Council.

The site is identified in the Cumberland local plan as a ‘main settlement’ for growth. Following a public consultation event, Cumbrian firm Story proposes a scheme of two- to five-bedroom homes, with 30% of homes designated as affordable housing.

Story has previously delivered The Grange project in Dalston.

Adam McNally, Cumbria and Scotland head of land and planning for Story Homes, said: “Dalston is a thriving community, and we’re excited to bring forward proposals that meet local housing needs while respecting the character of the area.

“Building on the success of our previous development at The Grange, our plans for Nook Lane focus on creating a well-designed, sustainable neighbourhood with generous green spaces and homes people will be proud to call their own. We look forward to working closely with Cumberland Council and the local community as the application progresses.”

Dalston lies around four miles south-west of Carlisle. Story said the development will feature landscaped grounds and accessible green spaces.

Story Homes expects a decision on the planning application in autumn 2026.
