WUKPG secures consent for Lancaster self-storage

A 51,000 sq ft scheme on a 6.4-acre site previously occupied by Travis Perkins has been given planning permission by the city council.

The development forms part of WUKPG’s aim to amass a £150m portfolio of self-storage assets by 2030.

Two more projects in Horwich and Northwich are also in the works.

On New Quay Road in Lancaster, WUKPG plans to build 475 drive-up units ranging from 50 sq ft to 300 sq ft on the site of a former builders’ merchant it acquired for £1.1m in 2023.

The scheme will be managed by the developer’s in-house Shutter Store brand.

They will be built to “institutional standards” incorporating proptech such as Noké key access systems, as well as ANPR, CCTV, EV charging, solar panels and Stora booking systems.

C4 Projects is leading on the design of all three schemes. HK Planning is advising WUKPG on planning and XO Square is the civil and structural engineer.
