Wrexham University hunts for student resi partner
Those interested have until 18 October to submit their bids to team up with the educational facility on a multi-phased, 322-bed development at its Plas Coch campus.
Wrexham University published its contract notice on Sell2Wales. According to the notice the contract has an estimated value of £500,000.
The contract is just for the initial design and planning approval of the scheme, with a second procurement exercise set to take place afterwards that will comprise of more detailed design, building, and financing of the student accommodation project.
Successful applicants for the second procurement activity would also have the potential to operate the student resi block – or blocks.
Student accommodation is described as “much-needed” in the tender documents. The number of students attending Wrexham University grew from 8,416 for the 2021-2022 academic year to 9,055 for the 2022-2023 period.
There is already a site in mind for the PBSA, according to the university. By being located within the Plas Coch Campus off Mold Road in Wrexham, the accommodation facility will be well-connected. The campus, which hosts most of the university’s classes, is situated within a five-minute walk from Wrexham General Railway Station and a 10-minute walk from the city centre.
