Wain Homes made to wait in Ellesmere Port
Concerns about highway safety led to Cheshire West and Chester Council’s planning committee deferring the developer’s plans for 240 homes off Dunkirk Way in Backford Cross.
Officers had recommended Wain Homes’ 30-acre scheme south-west of Ellesmere Port for approval but members opted not to make a decision last night, deferring the application and seeking reassurances about the safety of nearby roads.
In moving to defer the application, Cllr Mike Garvey said it is “only right and proper” that committee members seek to address issues prior to a decision being made rather than dealing with them through planning conditions.

Approval was sought for 240 homes – the scheme has been reduced from an initial 267 dwellings – with a breakdown of 12 one-bedroom houses, 72 two-beds, 108 three-beds, 41 four-beds, and seven five-beds.
More than seven acres of public open space, incorporating green corridors, pedestrian and cycle links, landscaping and sustainable drainage features, are proposed.
