TrueNorth adds to Droylsden canal-side holdings

The developer has acquired a site off Durham Street capable of accommodating 45 homes to go with the Lock Keepers Court site across the water being developed with CERT Property and L&G Affordable Homes.

TrueNorth Partnerships, which buys land to develop into homes in conjunction with registered providers, bought the the brownfield plot overlooking the Ashton Canal from Watkin Jones and intends to develop it into a 100% affordable scheme in partnership with MSV.

Watkin Jones was previously leading on a masterplan for the area under a development agreement with Tameside Council.

Work on that masterplan stalled after some 100 homes were delivered and in 2021, Tameside Council cancelled its development agreement with Watkin Jones to progress the later phases.

TrueNorth is working with CERT and L&G on plans for 192 homes on the Lock Keepers Court site off Manchester Road nearby and is now in pre-app discussions with the council over plans for the Durham Street plot.

Bowker Sadler is advising on design for both schemes and Enabl is the planning consultant.
