Trafford Housing Trust forms JV with Wates

Trafford Housing Trust has announced its latest incarnation as it expands into the private market – a joint venture with Wates Living Space Homes, with the abandoned Bayer industrial site in West Timperley its first project.

The 52-unit scheme will be offered to the private market. There will be 33 houses and 29 flats delivered on the three-acre site, which has been an eyesore for several years.

The development will be accessed via a new road bridge over the A56.

Phase one of the scheme, called Stonebrook, will be completed in summer 2017 and marketed under the newly launched Laurus Homes brand created by Trafford to market for private sale.

Larry Gold, Trafford Housing Trust’s deputy chief executive, said: “We’ve worked closely with Wates Living Space Homes on a number of major projects over recent years and this new joint venture will build on that experience. It also reflects our progressive, partnership approach to housebuilding; working with commercial developers and others to help accelerate the pace of new home delivery in Trafford and beyond.

“By embracing a profit-for-purpose approach to development we can also help tackle the issue of local housing need while still fulfilling our primary role as a champion of social justice at grass roots level.”

The announcement of the joint venture with Wates Living Space Homes follows Trafford Housing Trust’s recent announcement of a similar partnership to develop new homes with L&Q, the London housing association.
