Redrow unveils 500-home Woodford Garden Village extension
The housebuilder’s Harrow Estates division wants to add to the 600 properties it has already delivered at the former aerodrome of the same name.
A consultation on proposals for a 500-home southern extension to Woodford Garden Village has launched.

As well as the homes, Harrow is planning to deliver a mixed-use community hub and events space next to the Avro Heritage Museum of Nicolson Avenue.
Harrow Estates is working towards submitting a planning application to Stockport Council for the new development later this year.
Tim Noden, planning director at Harrow Estates, said: “This early-stage public consultation allows the local community to inform and influence these plans which include a mix of new homes, green and landscape-led spaces, and an enhanced community hub.
“We are establishing the design principles that will underpin further design work. Feedback received will help ensure these proposals complement the existing development at Woodford Garden Village”.
Planit and Gerald Eve are advising Harrow on the plans.
The redevelopment of Woodford Aerodrome into a garden village was granted consent in 2015. Since then, 600 homes, the Aviator pub and a primary school have been delivered.
Last year, planning permission was granted for a 16,000 sq ft retail centre to serve the community.
Woodford Garden ViIIage is a stunning DeveIopment and this extension can onIy serve to enhance this new community whiIst deIiviering much needed new homes in the area.

This was only a matter of time. A stunning development, but very expensive!

Brilliant, quality family homes in the suburbs! Not tiny terrace houses. Great to see!

Stunning development? Only if you like having to go by car for pretty much anything and have enough money to not be worried about how many multiples of your income your house costs.

There is a massive shortage of first time buyer homes in this area. For young people living with their parents who can only access shared ownership schemes in the area where their family live, this is a problem. We need more affordable homes in Cheshire East in this area, not only near Sandbach and Congleton.

@H, 1.45 pm – this isn’t in Cheshire East, it’s just over the border in Stockport. You’re quite right though – schemes like this don’t really do very much to meet the actual housing needs of the area. They don’t really do that much to meet the simple numerical need either as they don’t tend to make very efficient use of land.

Great to see and a natural extension to see at this stunning development
The only negative is Cheshire East’s unwillingness to join in the party on the Macclesfield side of the site, as they’ve been running scared of the NIMBYs for decades. Well, they now have no excuse following Rachael Reeves announcement at the start of this week!

They should be homes that are more affordable.

Overpriced houses that are causing so much traffic in the area. I’m glad I moved away from the chaos that will only get worse with yet more houses.

These “garden villages” are an unsustainable sprawl of car-dependent tarmac

Please could the developers build some 2 bed affordable homes that could start first time buyers off. A few rows of mews type homes would add a welcome mixture to the usual luxury detached we normally see.

There should be lots more two bed houses aimed at first time buyers and less of the sprawling grand homes that most people don’t have a cat in hell’s chance of affording.
Public open spaces are great but due to the potential layout of the estate it won’t exactly encourage visitors from other areas to explore these green spaces thus becoming the sole playground for the estate.

Stop building houses with no infrastructure, we need more school, a doctors surgery etc.

Don’t people realise that homes like this that are selling well, free up houses down the chain all the way to the affordable 1st time buyer homes/apartments , that already exist.
There has to be a balance of all types of homes being built….not just affordable.
