Plans in for £100m Carrington regeneration
HIMOR Group has submitted a planning application to Trafford Council for the first phase of its Future Carrington scheme, which includes 900 homes and up to one million sq ft of commercial space.
The residential aspect of development at the 1,655-acre former Shell refinery has been named Carrington Village and will be made up of a mix of two, three and four bedroom homes. Land off Common Lane will be used for employment uses.
The submission of the plans follows a period of consultation with local residents and stakeholders which was launched in February this year.
Plans for phase one include more than 30 acres of green space, including play areas. The new homes will be connected by a series of landscaped streets, footpaths and cycle ways.
HIMOR will also pay a new homes bonus of £7.6m to Trafford Council.
Future Carrington will also see the relocation of Carrington Rugby Club, with a new pitch, floodlit training area and a clubhouse, which could be available for community use. In addition, there will also be a local centre providing shops and services.
Transport improvements are planned for along Manchester Road at existing junctions at Isherwood Road/Flixton Road; Manchester Road/Common Lane; Carrington Lane/West Sale Junction.
Paul Stanley, director at HIMOR, said: “We’re pleased to have submitted the applications for phase one of Future Carrington. We believe that our plans will breathe life into the area, providing high quality homes, creating new jobs, and unlocking investment.
HIMOR, which is owned by Bill and Will Ainscough, took over the ownership and management of the Shell refinery in 2015 from Langtree, now known as Network Space, as part of a business restructure. Network Space is also owned by Bill Ainscough.
HIMOR is working in partnership with Trafford Council to deliver Future Carrington which will be brought forward in stages, regenerating the former Shell site and surrounding estate, one of the largest freehold sites in the region.
The application will now be determined by Trafford Council later this year.
The project team includes Spawforths, ARUP, Regeneris, AECOM, Tyler Grange and Pinsent Masons.
