Blackburn fuel station to be rebuilt with fewer pumps

EG Group’s Whalley Banks facility off King Street in the town will have a major revamp, which will see the introduction of EV charging points.

The development will reduce the number of fuelling bays currently on the site, with the adjoining shop and pharmacy also due for demolition.

They will be replaced with a modern filling station featuring six fuel pumps as opposed to the current 12, two EV charging points, and a retail shop on the half-acre site to serve traffic off the A674.

Blackburn with Darwen Council has approved the regeneration plans.

There are currently no defined parking bays at the site but this development will create 23 spaces.

The retail element will offer goods “found at a typical convenience store with an opportunity to provide food-to-go sections”. This will cater to customers paying for their fuel but will not operate as a standalone shop, according to the planning statement.

Shrubs and hedgerows will be planted around the boundaries of the site to soften the landscape.

The project team featured PWA Planning, iStruct Consultants, Bowland Ecology, Dynamic Transport Planning, and DEP Landscaping Architecture.
