Peel Ports offloads 42-acre Port Cheshire
Real estate investor Firethorn Trust has acquired the site off Junction 7 of the M53 in Ellesmere Port, on which it plans to start building an £80m industrial complex next year.
The site could provide up to 750,000 sq ft of logistics warehouse accommodation in one or multiple buildings, according to Firethorn, which acquired the site from Peel Ports, part of landowner the Peel Group.
Port Cheshire has the benefit of sitting within a ‘local development order’ designation that permits new industrial buildings to be built within certain parameters without the need for planning permission.
The order was adopted by Cheshire West & Chester Council to encourage development in the area.
Firethorn Trust was advised by consultancy CBRE and Peel Ports Group was represented by B8 Real Estate and JLL.
Peter Mather, partner at Firethorn, said: “The long-term changes in e-commerce trends, paired with the reconfiguration and expansion of supply chains, has exposed a shortage of fit-for-purpose Grade A warehousing solutions, particularly in this region.
“Our strategic acquisition of this site reflects our vision to respond quickly to increasing demand within the logistics sector.”
Place North West’s Cheshire Development Update will be held via Remo on Thursday 26 November
Ellesmere Port desperately needs new investment, it would be great to see a scheme brought forward for this site.
