Norman resigns from Cheshire East
Bill Norman, the local authority’s director of legal services and its monitoring officer, had been one of three senior officials suspended from duty over the course of this year.
Chief executive Mike Suarez was suspended in April, followed by Norman in July. Last week, chief operating officer Peter Bates, who had been working on restricted duties while investigations were ongoing, was also suspended.
A spokesperson for Cheshire East Council said: “The council’s director of legal services and monitoring officer, Bill Norman, has today tendered his resignation with immediate effect. Mr Norman’s resignation has been accepted.
“Recruitment to the permanent position of director of legal services and monitoring officer will be progressed as soon as is practicable.”
Cllr Howard Murray, chairman of Cheshire East’s investigation and disciplinary committee, said: “The IDC met today and, as a result of this resignation, has concluded its business with regard to Mr Norman.”
Norman has previously held roles as a senior legal official with Torbay, Wirral and Hereford councils. He resigned from Wirral in 2012.
Is this supposed to restore local residents confidence in this Council?!
