NOMINATIONS CLOSING SOON | Manchester’s Most Important Building
Only three days remain to put forward your nomination for the building that has contributed the most to the city’s advancement in the last century.
The process
How you see ‘the most important’ is up to you – it could mean something that has made the largest impact economically, culturally, or aesthetically.
A few rules of engagement:
- The building must be in Manchester proper – keep those Salford and Trafford nominations for another day.
- It must have been delivered in the last 100 years. That means Manchester Cathedral, Chetham’s Library, Manchester Town Hall, and the like are off the table.
You can email your suggestion to [email protected] using the subject title Most Important Building, or simply leave your nomination in the comments below. But be sure to justify your selection.
Ideas should be submitted by the end of Sunday 9 August.
What happens next?
We will examine each of the contenders and the strength of their respective cases, and create a shortlist – nobody wants this to get as messy as the Clacton by-election.
Then, it’s over to the voting readership.
We will launch the competition proper on 12 August, with voting open until 26 August. We will then publish the definitive, final report on 2 September.
