Next phase of major Prescot housing scheme set for approval

Knowsley Council’s planning committee will discuss Taylor Wimpey’s proposals to build 173 homes as part of the wider development of Prescot’s former Prysmian Cables factory next week, with a recommendation to approve.

The housebuilder’s reserved matters planning application at the former factory site is for 173 homes, including 112 three-bed semi-detached homes; 37 four-bed detached homes; 16 three-bed detached houses; and eight four-bed semi-detached homes.

The application, submitted at the start of November last year, covers Parcel D of the wider 63-acre Prescot Park site. This parcel is the largest designated for housing, and covers 12 acres.

Knowsley’s planners have recommended the application for approval, and said the proposals were “high quality” and could be “delivered without impacting adversely on residential amenity”.

Outline plans for the wider scheme include 750 homes and 10,000 sq ft of commercial and industrial space. Infrastructure works on the site have already completed, alongside a Home Bargains warehouse.

Other housebuilders working on the project include Anwyl Homes’ Lancashire division, which acquired a nine-acre part of the site in June this year, paving the way for a £23m residential project.

Anwyl will develop Parcel E, covering 119 homes, while Barratt Homes is also working on the site, developing Parcel B, which includes 150 houses.

Knowsley’s planning committee meets on 11 January.
