CPG close to deal on Cheshire site

Cheshire East Council has named Consolidated Property Group as its preferred purchaser to develop a 14-acre plot in Handforth into a retail-led mixed-use scheme.

The site in Earl Road next to Handforth Dean Retail Park was formerly part of RAF Handforth and was let to Airparks until 2010

Part of the plot already has planning permission for a Next store. According to a report to Cheshire East Council, CPG intends to build a pub and drive-thru restaurants subject to planning applications.

CPG is based in Alderley Edge. The developer specialises in retail and industrial schemes, with a portfolio that includes the 150,000 sq ft Chester retail park in Sealand Way, the 60,000 sq ft Silkworks in Macclesfield, and Manchester Industrial Park.

Cheshire East Council's cabinet has been asked to approve the Handforth deal at its next meeting on 3 March.

Engine of the North, the council's property development company, and CBRE marketed the site.
