MIPIM VIDEO | What are the challenges Manchester faces before end of decade

Barry Crichton, principal and managing director for Avison Young, told Place North West that transport connectivity, housing delivery, and net zero would continue to dominate the narrative between now and 2030.

Speaking ahead of MIPIM, Crichton said that a “good old-fashioned period of thoughtful funding strategy” is required to build back public services and drive growth in these areas.

Crichton, who took on the top job at Avison Young’s Manchester division last year, also spoke about the importance of continuing to attract tech and creative firms to the city.

In order to do that, Manchester’s office market needs to adapt, according to Crichton.

“There are a number of opportunities that present themselves to investors to feed these industries,” he said.

“These include buying older office stock to raise the EPC rating. The ecommerce revolution has further to run, which will create opportunities for last-mile logistics.”

Crichton referenced Avison Young’s Outlook Report for Manchester, which includes information on how the city’s economy and various property sectors are faring.

You can hear more from Crichton about his thoughts for Manchester in the medium-term in the video at the top of this article. You can also watch the video on the Place North West YouTube channel.
