MD Creatives takes St Helens space

The vocational education provider has agreed to take two floors at the former Tyrers department store on Bridge Street, below the Nicholson Lofts development.

MD Creatives has agreed a deal to occupy the basement and ground floor, a total of 4,500 sq ft, from Nicholson Group, formerly known as Luxor Group.

In 2017, Luxor obtained consent to develop the upper floors of the 15,000 sq ft building into 20 apartments.

The landlord has agreed to give its new tenant a six-month rent-free period and pay for a £60,000 fit-out of the facility as part of the deal.

MD Creatives wants to create a multi-purpose resource centre, including a library and IT suite, a radio station, classrooms, and hot desk opportunities for other businesses to utilise, as part of its growing academy.

The company, run by three-time Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalist Miguel Doforo, has another site on nearby Barrow Street dedicated to its vocational training offer. MD Creatives offers courses in creative programmes and courses in performing arts, hairdressing, make-up and photography.

Doforo said: “We were looking for a space in the town centre to house the academic side of our provision, separate to the more vocational offering at the academy on Barrow Street.

“The old Tyrers building then came to our attention, and we just fell in love with the history of the place.”

The deal was agreed directly between MD Creatives and Nicholson Group and no agents were involved.

Tyrers closed in 2016 and was bought by Luxor in December of the same year.
