Macclesfield Picturedrome opens its doors

The latest venture from Nick Johnson, the developer behind Altrincham Market and Manchester’s Mackie Mayor, will open to the public at 12pm today.

The development continues the popular market concept which has already proved to be a success in Manchester and Altrincham and includes some familiar traders including craft beer offer Jack In The Box and wine bar Reserve.

There are nine food operators in total with pasta company Terroni making its debut at the Picturedrome.

Ex-Urban Splash man Johnson secured planning permission to convert the Picturedrome on Chestergate, which was owned by local businessman Karl Massey, in 2018, and the development will open to the public from midday on 29 October.

Johnson’s Market Operations business was supported by architect Buttress on the project.

In a post shared on social media, the company said: “Picturedrome is the third spiritual sister in the Market Operations family. Home to over seven outstanding kitchens, a coffee shop, chocolatier, craft beer bar, and wine bar and merchant, Picturedrome is an attempt to enrich lives by providing high-quality, everyday food in a social setting – where families, friends, and strangers get together around shared tables and ‘break bread’.

“If we can win our way into Macclesfield hearts we hope we can return the favour and become the beating heart of this great and ‘proper’ town and find our part into its noble history”.

Excellent. Lucky Macc. Good news, and good luck to all involved.

Just what Macc needs an uplift, some where to go to at last!

The Picturedrome – already full an hour after opening. Great news for Macc and great refurb

Already plenty of decent independent bars & restaurants in Macc – SOMA, Red Willow, Treacle Tap, Spanish Caravan, Salt Bar, Tempranillo, Aquila to name but a few but if the Picturedome is anything like Mackie Mayor and Altrincham Market, it will be a fantastic addition. Macclesfield is definitely heading in the right direction.

Sounds a great idea and really looking forward to eating and drinking there. A great idea to help get Macclesfield back on it’s feet along with the number of small independent restaurants and bars that Macc now has.

My favourite thing about the Mackie Mayor is spending ages finding a seat, then separately going and ordering food, then eating it at slightly different times, all while people are trying to squeeze past you. It really is worth the money

I look forward to a visit. Good luck to everyone involved. It sounds like there will be variety and choice for all tastes.
