Labubu dolls head to Liverpool

Viral toy store POP MART has signed a lease for 6,200 sq ft at Liverpool ONE’s upper South John Street.

POP MART has become a global sensation for its blind boxes containing a variety of characters – with the most famous being the furry, elf-like Labubu. Labubu dolls have been photographed with a variety of celebrities – from David Beckham to Kim Kardashian to Rihanna.

At Liverpool ONE, POP MART will be taking over the former Quiz unit – the store having shut down after the fashion retailer entered administration at the start of this year.

The store is set to be the largest POP MART in the UK and a first for the brand in Liverpool.

“We’re working hard to extend POP MART to leading locations across the UK, and when it came to our next launch, Liverpool ONE was the clear choice,” said POP MART’s managing director of Europe, Peter Shipman.

“Liverpool is my hometown, so I’m especially excited about this opening,” he added.

“We know we will be welcomed with open arms, and we can’t wait to deliver products featuring the characters our customers know and love to a whole new city.”

Rob Deacon, director of asset management for the Landsec-owned shopping centre, chimed in: “With regular sell-out product launches, POP MART has proven a viral sensation, and the store is set to appeal to a wide range of consumers across the North West.

“The brand launching its biggest UK store yet will provide yet another distinct point of difference to the destination, reinforcing Liverpool ONE’s position as a go-to location for globally renowned brands and one of the leading retail and entertainment destinations in the UK,” he continued.

Cushman & Wakefield acted for POP MART on the deal. Liverpool ONE was represented by CBRE, Colliers, and Time Retail Partners.

Liverpool ONE has had a series of high-profile signings this past year, including MINISO taking 3,000 sq ft, Sephora signing for 6,700 sq ft, and UNIQLO leasing 25,000 sq ft.

Landsec is the majority shareholder of the 1.6m sq ft Liverpool ONE, having acquired 92% of the shares in a £490m deal in December.

@ Anon 6.48am, I am often critical of Councillors but I doubt it is their fault that Bootle, St Helens, and Kirkby , have no Sephora or Uniqlo, for example.
