Jones appointed Wrexham CEO after stint as interim

Alwyn Jones has been appointed as the county council’s chief executive on a permanent basis.

Jones replaces Ian Bancroft, who stepped down after six years at the end of 2024.

Since them Jones has been leading the council’s officer team on an interim basis. He was previously chief officer for social care having joined the council in 2020.

Before moving to Wrexham, Jones was head of adult services for Isle of Anglesey County Council.

Jones’ appointment will be confirmed at a full council meeting later this week.

Speaking to news site Wrexham.com, Wrexham County Council Leader Cllr Mark Pritchard Jones had prevailled against some “excellent candidates” and praised him for the “fantastic job” he has done as interim chief executive.

The lowest pay on the ‘CEO’ band at this apparently ‘crisis hit’ council is £134k (increasing !) Enjoy the trough, Alwyn, I’m sure you’ll earn it in some way not at all noticeable to anyone else in the borough.
