Strawson’s Harker industrial could span 1.8m sq ft

A hybrid planning application, recommended for approval by Cumberland Council, seeks permission for a major logistics development on the site of the former Grearshill Farm in Carlisle.

Plans for Harker View were submitted on behalf of Strawson Holdings by agent MDPC in 2022 and will go before the local authority’s committee when it meets next week.

In total, Harker View could host 1.8m sq ft of industrial and logistics floorspace. The masterplan for the 120-acre site has been designed by Frank Shaw Associates Architects

The proposal seeks full permission for Plot 3000 for an industrial facility, and outline permission for both Plot 1000 and Plot 2000.

Plot 3000 would comprise three units ranging in size from 38,600 sq ft to 72,100 sq ft. The plot would be accessed by a three-arm roundabout off a junction of the A7.

Plot 1000 will host sheds with a 1.5m sq ft footprint, while Plot 2000 will provide a building area with a maximum size of 25,000 sq ft. Both plots are currently being courted by an international e-commerce logistics operator.

Finally, a further outline plan for Plot 4000, comprising a 50,000 sq ft unit, is also recommended for approval, in addition to the potential for a 75-key hotel, a public house and diner, three drive-thru offers, and a restaurant.
