Kier appoints Staehr as construction lead
Martin Staeher will become group managing director for the company’s construction division, overseeing its order book of £4.5bn when he makes the move in January 2026.
He will join after 17 years with Laing O’Rourke, the last two on its European hub executive committee as delivery director for construction projects in data centre, justice, defence, higher education, and science sectors.
Staehr has extensive experience across MEP manufacturing facilities, the delivery of regional buildings, and projects across the justice, defence, health, science, and education sectors.
Martin Staeher said: “With a strong pipeline of work, pioneering projects, and fantastic people, I believe it’s an exciting time to be joining Kier and leading the construction business in its next chapter.”
The move is part of a wider shake-up. Current group managing director for construction, Stuart Togwell, will become chief executive of Kier Group from November.
James Askew, construction’s commercial director, is to take up the role of interim group managing director of construction until January 2026.
Stuart Togwell, chief executive designate of Kier Group, said: “Martin brings fresh thinking and a drive to make a meaningful difference within the construction industry, and I am delighted he is joining us.
“Our construction business has a strong order book and pipeline of work, and with government spending commitments, we have further opportunities for growth in our chosen sectors and through our integrated 360 approach.”
Staeher will be based at Kier’s office in Salford’s Clippers Quay.
