Home Bargains given permission to double size of Trafford store

The discount retailer will take over the former Sports Direct store at Trafford Retail Park, taking the size of its premises from 10,000 sq ft to 20,000 sq ft.

The retail park’s owner LPPI Real Estate Fund applied in April for permission to increase the size of Home Bargains’ footprint following the departure of Sports Direct.

The 143,000 sq ft Neary Way complex is let to occupiers including B&M, Dunelm, and Boots.

Sports Direct left its unit there when it opened a large format store at Peel’s Trafford Palazzo nearby. The 40,000 sq ft, two-level new store is 30,000 sq ft larger than the unit the Frasers firm occupied at Trafford Retail Park.

The move formed part of a strategy to have fewer, larger stores in prime retail locations.

Savills advised LPPI on planning matters. To learn more search for reference number 118791/VAR/26 on Trafford Council’s planning portal.
