Football uni takes more Salford space
Having committed to opening an 11,000 sq ft campus at MediaCity earlier this year, the University Campus of Football Business and Global Institute of Sport are eyeing an additional 5,200 sq ft at Exchange Quay.
The university has submitted a planning application to Salford City Council requesting consent to convert the fifth floor at 7 Exchange Quay, which is fully let to flexible workspace provider Serendipity Labs.
Newflex, the company that owns Serendipity Labs, signed to take the entire 25,000 sq ft 7 Exchange Quay last year.
The fifth floor would be used by up to 150 of UCFB and GIS’s 1,000 students and would feature three lecture rooms.
The two institutions offer undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in sports media, communications, and broadcasting.
Brendan Flood, chairman and chief executive of UCFB and GIS, added: “Exchange Quay at Salford Quays is one of the North West’s leading business districts, on the fringe of Manchester City Centre.
“We look forward to working with Newflex, Salford City Council, and the wider Salford and Manchester business community to
bring these plans forward, enabling the development of the next generation of talent for the region.”
The Exchange Quay site would be UCFB and GIS’ sixth overall. Starting at Turf Moor, Burnley in 2011, and relocating to Manchester city centre in 2016, the education provider also has sites in London, Miami, and Melbourne.
Earlier this year, Peel L&P lodged an application with Salford City Council to convert four floors of vacant office space within Quay Plaza – which adjoins Quayside shopping centre – to create an education establishment, which could be used by up to 1,000 students and 400 staff.
Les Lang director at Till Asset Management – the investment manager at Exchange Quay – said: “Exchange Quay will provide a fantastic
and inspirational base for UCFB’s football and sports business students.
“UCFB will bring a new exciting facility to Exchange Quay, which will inspire the next generation of talent. We’re looking forward to working with UCFB to help make their vision a reality.”
