MIPIM | Salford at 100: the next 10 years of ambition
Stephen Young, Salford City Council chief executive, describes how Salford is a city transformed by a proven track record of major regeneration – bigger, younger, more diverse, and more dynamic than at any point in modern history.
Young said: “In the last 10 years alone, we’ve delivered 26,707 new homes and 1.83m sq ft of commercial space, reflecting a wave of investment driven by a bold economic vision, strong civic leadership, and long-term partnerships that champion innovation, sustainability, and placemaking.
“With more than 11,000 businesses employing 162,000 people, we have led Greater Manchester in GVA and employment growth over the past five years and played a core part in delivering on the Greater Manchester Strategy.
“The Centenary is a chance for us to celebrate everything we’ve achieved, but it is also a launchpad for everything to come next. We have an ambitious and deliverable pipeline of 35,000 additional homes over the next 10 years, underpinned by the same forward-looking mindset that has driven Salford’s rise: inclusive growth, innovation-led industries, world-class regeneration, and a commitment to creating a fairer, greener, more prosperous Salford for all.”
