Peel L&P to deliver uni campus at MediaCity
The University Campus of Football Business and the Global Institute for Sport will occupy 11,000 sq ft at Quay Plaza.
Peel L&P has lodged an application with Salford City Council to convert four floors of vacant office space within Quay Plaza – which adjoins Quayside shopping centre – to create an education establishment, which could be used by up to 1,000 students and 400 staff.
The new facility, designed by Chapman Taylor and overlooking Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium, will include several lecture and seminar rooms, as well as a study lounge, and staff facilities.
UCFB and GIS specialise in the teaching of sports media, communications, and broadcasting degrees.
The MediaCity site is UCFB and GIS’ fifth overall. Starting at Turf Moor, Burnley in 2011, and relocating to Manchester city centre in 2016, the education provider also has sites in London, Miami, and Melbourne.
“Quay Plaza will provide a fantastic and inspirational base for UCFB’s sports media, communications, and broadcasting students,” said Stephen Wild, managing director for MediaCity.
“The BBC, ITV and dock10 are right on its doorstep as well as other educational establishments at MediaCity such as the University of Salford and University Technical College and will help secure the next generation of talent here at MediaCity.”
Brendan Flood, chairman and chief executive of UCFB and GIS, added: “MediaCity is one of the world’s leading media and tech hubs, and we are incredibly excited to announce our plans to create an exciting new destination for our students.
“We look forward to working with Peel L &P, Salford City Council and the MediaCity family to bring these plans forward, enabling the development of the next generation of talent for the region.”

This is excellent news for Salford Quays. Another key education provider situated within MediaCityUK will only bring positive results for the area and, importantly so, an increasingly young demographic visiting and living along the Quays.
