Exchange Court refurb completes

Developer Bruntwood Works’ refurbishment of the grade-two listed office building in Liverpool’s commercial district has completed.

The renovation focussed on 7,200 sq ft of internal common areas including entrance halls, corridors and toilets in the 62,400 sq ft building.

Its cantilevered staircase, which wraps through the building, has also been repainted to “complement Exchange Court’s classical heritage”, according to a spokesperson from Bruntwood Works.

MgMa Studios, which designed the scheme, helped Bruntwood Works to get listed building consent for the refurbishment.

RCMA Group’s Cotton Division currently occupies 2,500 sq ft in the building.

Colin Forshaw, regional director at Bruntwood Works, said: “Exchange Court is a beautiful, historic building in an excellent location…and is home to an established community of businesses.

“Our aim was to give [that community] a fresh, progressive environment that would also amplify the building’s rich heritage.”

Matthew Ashton, director at MgMa Studio, added: “The scheme was designed to amplify the sculptural staircases on the principal elevation.”

Bruntwood Works declined to disclose the cost of the refurbishment.
