El Gato Negro heads to Liverpool

Simon Shaw, chef patron and creative director of the popular Manchester tapas restaurant, has confirmed plans to open a second branch, in Liverpool’s Exchange Flags.

El Gato Negro is to take over from the Vincent Café and Cocktail Bar – Aiden Byrne, backed by Medusa Hospitality, announced in April that he would be taking the site on, however the deal fell through shortly after.

The tapas restaurant has been one of the Manchester hospitality scene’s success stories since opening in 2016, with recognition including a Michelin Bib Gourmand for three years running and an AA rosette.

Shaw said: “I am really looking forward to opening a second El Gato Negro restaurant. Liverpool’s an incredible city and I love the community spirit and vibe there.

“The restaurant has been so popular in Manchester that it only seemed right to bring the venue to a second city in the North and Liverpool seemed like the perfect fit.”

Law firm Freeman Fisher advised on the deal.
