Change of tack for Cavern Quarter hotel
JSM and Greenwood Developments have revised proposals to convert the upper floors of Liverpool’s Cavern Walks shopping centre into 85 serviced apartments, superseding plans for a 283-bed Motto by Hilton.
In early 2024, the developers announced they had struck a deal with Hilton for a Motto-branded hotel in Liverpool’s Cavern Quarter. However, updated plans validated this month suggest that agreement is no longer in place.
The vision is now for 85 serviced apartments “providing luxury accommodation”, for visitors, according to planning documents.
Each apartment would include an open plan kitchen, living, and dining area as well as bedrooms and bathrooms. A gym and spa area is also proposed.
JSM and Greenwood, which bought Cavern Walks in 2022 for £7m, have been working since then to find a way forward for a hotel scheme on the Mathew Street asset.
They secured consent in 2024 for the conversion of floors one to seven into a 150-bed Beatles-themed hotel. A planning application for the 283-bed Hilton was lodged around two years ago but never determined.
