Change at the top for Hannan Associates
Long-standing directors Ian Joyce and Jamie Hall will lead the building services engineering consultancy following a management buyout, as John Walker prepares for retirement in December.
Joyce and Hall, who have been with the company for 42 and 32 years respectively, will lead the Tameside-headquartered business through its next phase of growth and development.
After nearly 50 years as an electrical design engineer and 30 years as a director of Hannan Associates, Walker stepped down from the main board in October, and will leave the business next month.
Following the completion of the MBO, Ian and Jamie are now the main board directors and continue to be backed by a long-serving senior management team.
Director and majority shareholder Ian Joyce said: “Over the last 30 years, John has helped build Hannan Associates into the business it is today, leading countless projects and developing valuable client relationships.
“As a vital mentor, he has also driven the team’s continued development. We are hugely grateful for his contribution and wish him every happiness in retirement.”
Walker added: “Having been part of Hannans for 30 years, it has been a privilege to contribute to the development of the business and to work alongside so many talented colleagues, clients and consultants.
“The relationships we have built over the years have always been a fundamental part of what makes Hannan Associates special, and I would like to thank everyone who has been part of that journey. I leave knowing that the business has a strong team in place to take it forward, and I wish everyone success for the future.”
Hannans’ core leadership team has expanded to include Tom Cutt, who becomes a director in recognition of his continued contribution to the company alongside fellow director Andy Carrington and marketing director Vicky Priestley.
Hall said of the changes: “Our growth in recent years, in particular within the residential and commercial sectors, is thanks to the continued hard work and commitment of the whole team. As our business evolves, we know it is vital to maintain a strong and sustainable leadership team to help ensure our continued success.
“Andy, Tom and Vicky have been a part of this growth, and they will each play a critical role in the future development of the company.”
All are long-serving Hannans people: Carrington joined in 1998 as an apprentice mechanical design engineer; Priestley as a marketing graduate in 2003; and Cutt in 2015 as a graduate mechanical design engineer.
During his tenure, John Walker led the MEP and utilities strategy for schemes including the Manchester Commonwealth Games stadium; the refurbishment of Liverpool’s St George’s Hall; Stockport Exchange for Muse; the Liverpool Waters masterplan for Peel; and Omega in Warrington for Miller.
The practice’s client roster includes Muse, Tritax BigBox, Harworth, Peel, Manchester United FC, Ask and Genr8 Developments.
Projects within the portfolio include Salford Central and Crescent Salford for ECF; Symmetry Park Merseyside for Tritax Big Box; various works at Old Trafford for MUFC; Chatterley Park for Harworth; Prestwich Village for Muse and Bury Council; and Talbot Gateway for Muse and Blackpool Council.
