Big predictions on the menu at Economic Forecast Lunch

What will the next 12 months bring for the economy, politics and property? Our Economic Forecast Lunch: The North in 2027 will put those questions to a top table of speakers and invite guests to join the debate.

After a year of devolution, a change of prime minister and a difficult market for developers, there is plenty to discuss. But this is not simply a chance to look back. On Wednesday 2 December at the Lowry Hotel in Salford we will be asking our audience to look ahead, stick their necks out and make predictions that give the room something to digest as we wrap up 2026.

The Economic Forecast Lunch: The North in 2027 is sponsored by Arcadis.

Two opening keynotes, from an economist and a political adviser, will set the scene. Then we’ll move beyond the lectern for a more informal exchange, with invited contributors speaking from the floor and guests encouraged to challenge their thinking.

Keynote presenters on the North in 2027

  • Economics: Martin Beck, ex-House of Lords advsier, EY ITEM Club, and Oxford Economics, now chief economist at WPI Strategy
  • Politics: Rob Loughenbury, managing director of public affairs consultancy Lexington North

Expect punchy forecasts, pointed questions and a willingness to provoke. Where could growth come from? What might unlock development? And which political decisions will matter most to the property industry?

The aim is to break down the barriers between speakers and audience, bring fresh perspectives into the conversation and have some fun with the uncertainties of the year ahead.

Join us for lunch, lively debate and a chance to decide whose predictions you’re backing.
